Minnie

Bixby out chestnut mare has a terrible time with flies biting her. She's smart enough to know that fly masks and fly sprays help her so she is very good about being sprayed and outfitted. But the biting flies were unimpressed with the spray and she was going bald on her forelegs and blood dripping from all the fly bites. :(
Knowing how good she was about fly stuff I ordered her a pair of fly mesh boots.
The flies seem less interested in black legs like Minnie's and DJ's but since DJ had his hind leg injury I ordered him a pair as well and put it on upside down with top velcro open so the flies would stay off of his wound.
Minnie is always the first to greet me and she was so interested in the boxes with the new fly boots. We've been trying out so many new things with her lately that she just couldn't believe she was not getting to try on anything!
This is really wonderful because she used to really get freaked out by having to put on the fly mask. Now I don't have to tie her for anything.
It was her first time wearing something on her leg and she just was so calm about it.
So for now Bixby gets to wear hers the proper way, DJ wears his upside down and on the back leg and Minnie wears DJ's spare on her front.

Urgh - flies! With a pony with sweetitch i HATE fly season.....
Never had blood dripping fly bites though. That sounds awful. Glad you have a solution :)

Aww I've just seen this and read it from start to finish.

I adore Minose!!

Keep up the good work especially now you have a snazzy saddle to ride in

Good point!
I hauled the snazzy saddle to the barn tonight and I am so pleased.
I've been thinking about exercises for her to become more flexible and more easy to turn/bend since she is so one sided. So the serpentines around buckets are our new exercise.
Funny thing is: in an attempt to get her more flexible so she can learn well without discomfort when she goes to the trainer she actually is already improving so much!!
What a crazy idea that I could teach something to a green horse. But I really think she is doing better each time.

Excuse my terrible position. I need to scoot forward and tuck my tailbone in. Need to lengthen stirrups. And my new girth will come Monday. Still slipping issues. It slipped down a bit when mounting and I stood in the right stirrup to get it to straighten out but looking at the pics I overcorrected and it was a little over to the right.

Check out her pretty spring dapples! And her snazzy new saddle pad- it's got 'M' monogrammed onto it :D

She's little little stunner

Well done.
I think learning to bend and balance around corners is so hard for a baby horse to learn. Buzz struggled massively when I got him and we had several months of really not cornering well and then it clicked and he worked out how to do it!!

I was going to say I think you need to drop your stirrups a couple of holes. I'm terrible for letting my stirrup length creep up. I learnt at a riding school which mainly did jumping so I naturally rode quite short. Then when I changed my new instructor (who was very very good) dropped my stirrups by about four holes...it felt awful but she was right. I was riding like a jockey previously :giggle:

I had the trainer over to ride her in the saddle in all speeds (because I am too scared for that) so we could make sure it doesn't have any strange problems in different gaits before I buy it and he puts his stirrups up ridiculously short.
He's 2 inches taller than I am! I just forgot to lengthen them back to my preferred length. I don't know how the man can ride in such short stirrups. Funny thing is I've seen him ride in mine and his legs really barely reach them so maybe he just has shorter legs regardless of being taller...

Got OH to come out tonight to take a video!
We even went over the Cavaletti and did better at our bucket serpentines.
Then trying to upload it I realized OH must have not clicked the right buttons.
NO VIDEO. :(

Hooked up the trailer for DJ's vet trip in the morning and used that opportunity to see how quickly all of them would load.
Bixby was so excited she was waiting at the gate calling to be lead to the trailer! :)
DJ is still slow with the bandage on but also loaded without hesitation.
It took a few treats to get Minnie to go into the trailer but even she loaded in less than 3 minutes total. Not bad considering we've only trailered her once since we got her as a yearling... :o

I Hate folk touching my stirrups with a passion. I have a psychological block with them. If they are changed, no matter the fact that I'be counted how many holes and put them back to how they were, I still am convinced they feel wrong. Really upsets me! And then I clean my tack and theyre never right again!!

Anyway sorry I digress! Hope the vet trip goes ok, will go have a look in your other thread to see if there's an update. Just wanted to say here what a good girl Minnie is to hop on the trailer without an issue. What a sweetie she is!

I went to check out my trainer's place today to see Minnie's stall and run out and get a feel for the place. Looks like she will start on April 15th.
Vet is scheduled for farm call Monday to get shots, teeth and coggins done...

I think Minose is a lovely name. Most people will know you and Minnie so will know how to pronounce it. Hearing 'Karin on My Nose' at the odd show is a small price to pay for such a beautiful and unusual name, I think. :)

Thanks
My Minose is changing!
I've put everybody back on flaxseed to help with DJ's skin/healing. Minnie always gets more dapples in the spring but with the flax she is turning into a black horse. She is getting them so dense and dark I am actually looking forward to summer when it will all bleach out she will be back to being buckskin

Rough day for the horses today: farm call!
The vet came out and gave everybody their shots, coggins test and dental.
Minnie has wolf teeth. :(
Bad timing to find that out 2 weeks before she goes to the trainer but he says they are flush with the other tooth right now and will be easier to to pull in 6 months to a year.
So we will wait on that.
We even added on a bar across the washrack so they can hang the dental halter!
Vet was impressed with our handywork and made me totally happy when he guessed Minnie's breed as ANDALUSIAN! (sorry no offense to any owners of real Andalusians)
I always thought she looked kind of Andalusian myself... :D

Tomorrow is the day. We are dropping Minnie off at the trainer's :(
A few weeks ago I was riding her and doing lots of bending do get her more flexible on her left but work got so crazy and I haven't done a thing. I feel bad. She'll be sore because I didn't prepare her well enough.
It will be so weird to go out to feed them and have Minnie missing. Right now I am planning on just leaving her there for a month, maybe two if it seems like she benefits from it.

She'll be fine. Horses get lots of exercise from walking around/playing. So they lose fitness much more slowly than people. Will you get regular updates? Can you visit?? Hope it goes really well. :)
