size of me any pony

hi i was just wondering what size pony you think i should get, i've got one thats about 12.2hh i dont ride her very much, but im about 5 foot 6/7 inches what size pony do you fink i should get im nearly 7 stone. i want to stay with ponies as i think you have a lot more fun.

please get back to me.

x:)

i'm the same height as you but heavier and i can quite happily ride my 13.3hh welsh section D. it entirely depends on the build/breed of the pony and what you feel comfortable on.

if you are the same height as me i'd go for more 14hh. i'm very comfy on a 15.2hh but i know you said you wanted to stick with ponies, so 14hh+ would do you fine :)

It depends on the amount of bone(measurement around cannon bone below the knee) the pony has. At 7 stone you can ride about anything even the smallest most delicate of tiny show ponies. Any native pony including 12hh Welsh As would be fine with your weight but a slightly taller and chunkier pony might be better for your height. I'm your height but heavier and I feel fine on my 12.3 Exmoor (though as I haven't had him very long and usually get given taller horses -the ground always seems too near when I get off.) He rides a lot taller than he is as his body is that of a big horse-on short strong legs!
I've heard it quoted that a horse with reasonable confirmation and 8" of bone can carry 75kg.

If you have good balance you should be fine on about anything. Are you done growing? If not you might want to get something a bit bigger so you will be able to ride that pony for a long time. Good luck!

P.S. I ride a 10+hh 480lb pony once in awhile and I am 5ft5in and about 108 lb. She is solid and handles it fine.

go for it :D im about 5'5, my pony is a dinky 12.3 ... here's what we look like :D

Notpoodle you look great on your pony :) You have now given me incentive to ride my daughters 12.3 welsh/arab/aust pony cross. How do you find the trotting though? is it a bit like riding on a pogo stick?

I'm 5'6", and my mare is 14.1hh - we do quite well, and when she acts like a doorknob, I'm almost releived to know that the ground is as close as it is. :-)

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but could someone tell me what a stone translates to in pounds? It's not a common Canadian term, and I'm curious. :)

Yep, 14 lbs (pounds) = 1 stone.
I weigh 8st (stone) 2lbs, which is 114 lbs :D

Thats What I thought too! I was alittle lost! Thank you for asking and thank you ddgpony for telling us! :)

I weigh ummm let me see then... 7.3 stone and I ride a 15.3hh TB gelding. Though I am mostly legs though... SO it depends on the body type alittle I guess

why can't the rest of the world use metric? it's so much easier ! :)
What does a stone translate to in kg? I'm 5'3'' (not sure if that's how you write it, I usually do height in metres) and 50kg (whatever that is) and ride a very fine built 14.1hh. Used to have a 15hh TB but it felt absolutely huge.
