Hiya, i was just wondering as i would like a small pony to do mounted games on, what breeds would be suitable and would i be ok on n 11.2 to 14h? I know about Dartmoors and i would really like one but there are not that many around:rolleyes:
Also, do i go for an add that says "suit small adult" or if i like the pony and it says "suit confident child" but the pony still looks quite up to weight do i still apply to go and see it?
Did you lot buy from adds that said "suit small adult" or did you steer towards the "childs pony" adds?

Obviously i would look silly but i dont care about the comments.:)

Sorry if what i hve said doesnt make sense at all, i will try to find some examples:)
Thanks a lot xx

when i bought twiggy his ad said "make super child's pony" as he wasn't broken. he is now broken and has 3 smooth paces and is able to jump small jumps, he is very quiet and doesn't spook easily - and for a 4 year old i think he's GREAT! he probably would be and excellent childs pony as he is only 13hh and very easily to handle, but he's mine now and im not letting him go heehee!!! :D

here's a wee piccie of him:

In my opinion, I've never known a bad Welsh Bread mounted games pony. They are althetic lil things and are easily monerverable. Welshies are also weight carriers able to carry a full adult easily. Depending on what section of Welshie you go for would depend on the the height... I've heard Welsh B's (Welsh Pony) & C's (Pony of Cob Type) would be more suited to mounted games than A (Welsh Mountain Pony) & D (Welsh Cob).
But generally any breed can be a mounted games pony, but I reconmend Welshies or possibly New Forests (although they may be slightly too large) and connemaras.

Sorry I havent answered all your questions but I do hope to hear about what pony you actually wish to use! :)
I hope I've helped you.
Good Luck on your search! :)

Sorry, but I don't really know your situation regarding your height/weight/riding abilities and level of compeating you want to get to etc, but having competed at prince philip cup level I'll happily try and answer any questions you may have regarding games. In regards to breeds, yes in theory welshies are very agile, speedy and accurate, but this doesn't mean to say that nothing else is. I myself competed on a section A 11.1hh mare until I was 7 she was very nippy and quick and if we were doing anything that involved speed and accuracy we'd win. The only thing that held us back on games where rider mounts and dismounts was the fact that she was better than me at the time but bending, mugs, musical mugs etc we were unbeaten but at this point I was still competing at local level, but not bad for a home produced pony. After this all my games horses were welsh x, usually arab. My main one was amazingly accurate and could go round the bottom bending pole like a motorbike so near that Id have to be careful not to either go out the side door or knock the post with my body. Section B's are excellent at it. I have seen the finer built section D's do games well but the 'show' type just is'nt going to out do a nippy smaller more mobile pony. There are also a few good new forests out there too but it all really depends of your capabilites and what level you want to comepete at. At local level it's all for the fun so isn't so much an issue but if you really want tog et top level, unless you really have your heart set on a pure bred I'd 110% say go for a section B x arab or similar they care just so nimble and quick. My quickest time over the finish line was just over 30mph on one of those

Thanks everyone that helps alot:) I think i would want a nippy small thing rather than a welsh sec d or anything like that as i am only 5ft myself and i dont think id be able to vault on anything over 14h lol:rolleyes: :o
I think the breeds i will be looking at then are:
Welsh sec B
Dartmoor
Welsh x
New forest
Connemara

I have seen a gorgeous new forsest pony for sale thats only 12.2, but i wont be able to afford her (or have the time) just yet:rolleyes:
